The revolutionary procedure that addresses the cause rather than the symptoms of herniated or depleted discs and pinched nerves in the back and neck
Therapy is a non-surgical, non-drug solution for the treatment of pain from spinal disorders such as disc degeneration, disc herniation, sciatica, pinched nerve, foraminal stenosis, arthritis, diabetic neuropathy, whiplash, carpal tunnel syndrome, failed back surgery syndrome and tingling of the hands and/or feet.
Throughout the course of life, the discs in the spine gradually lose moisture with age. When a disc begins to dehydrate, it will begin to collapse. When the disc collapses, it does two things: the disc will bulge and or herniate out the side, and the holes where the nerve exits the spine will become narrower. Both these events will create what is referred to as a "pinched nerve" resulting in spinal trauma and pain.
One of the primary components of LASR® Therapy is computerized traction. Patients lay on a specially designed table in a fabric harness attached to a cable and receive gentle “pulling” of the spine to relieve tension and pinching caused by degenerative discs and the narrowing of vertebral cavities with significant additional benefits. The process is computerized, programmed to factor in the precise angle, weight distribution, degree of pull and length of time modified by a patient’s specific condition, age, weight and pain level.
A number of research studies have shown that carefully managed traction has the ability to help rehydrate discs in the lumbar (lower) and cervical (upper, or neck) regions of the spine, thus reducing if not eliminating pain entirely. The majority of patients experience relief from 80% of their pain, with many experiencing no pain whatsoever lasting for 3 to 5 years after treatment.
As a result of the decompression experienced through traction, inversion tables have recently gained popularity. It’s important to note that while inversion tables may offer temporary relief for some individuals, results are mixed and include inherent risks. Increased pain and spinal damage can even occur in some patients who use inversion therapy independently from a physician’s oversight. The degree of pull using an inversion table is based on the person’s weight at only one spinal angle. If a person is 300 lbs., the degree of “pull” is 3x stronger than a patient weighing 100 lbs. For these reasons and others, most doctors do not recommend inversion therapy or tables.
Laser therapy is performed on the specific area of pain being addressed using a Class IV Laser (K-Laser) device designed to penetrate the skin and address healing at the level of the spine and its surrounding tissue. This treatment modality has been proven through countless studies to relieve pain as well as speed up the healing of damaged tissue beneath the surface of the skin by rapidly increasing blood flow and oxygenation to the region.
TENS NERVE STIMULATION THERAPY
The LASR Therapy® protocol can include electrostimulation using a TENS (transcutaneous nerve stimulation) device that utilizes high frequency electrical stimulation of the nerve, without side effects, which disrupts the pain signal so that the pain is no longer felt by the patient. This procedure is also region-specific, and adjusted to ensure patient comfort.
The importance of physical therapy as part of any treatment plan to address back, neck or joint pain cannot be understated, and is widely accepted by physicians and neurosurgeons. In general, the goals of physical therapy are to decrease pain, increase function, and provide education on a maintenance program to prevent further recurrences. This is accomplished by the introduction of a personalized exercise regimen designed to decrease pain by stretching and elongating muscles that could contribute to the pain, as well as strengthen muscles that support the spine and joints to prevent pain recurrence.
At LASR Clinics International, our physical therapists are trained to help patients address their specific physical limitations that prevent them from living a full, active, pain-free day-to-day life. Physical therapy sessions are a daily part of the overall LASR Therapy® protocol.
